Piffle Playground
A collaboration by Michelle Le Plastrier, Izzy Voodoo & Marcel Lim.
An interactive installation exhibited at Level Up Gallery and Studio in March 2020.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Can you even recall what the world looked like to you as a kid? When the world seemed at once scary and exciting, the unknown was a call to adventure not a text from anxiety. A time when imagination was reserved for fairytales not phone bills, playing house meant having fun not paying insurance and novelty was a daily occurrence.
Piffle playground is our attempt at recapturing that feeling, a space to bridge the gap between imagination and a sometimes harsh reality. A temporal place that feels make-believe, our inner sanctum turned outer, made real. The invitation is to step inside and, once your eyes adjust, enjoy the frivolity of a space created purely for your enjoyment, but bring something with you. We encourage you to write on the post it notes provided the last thing that made you happy. Don’t over think it, celebrate your last latte, the tail on the last pug you saw, the $5 you found in your jacket pocket. Attach it to the walls inside and help us illuminate the space as it grows, fed onIy on the delights of those who enter. We hope the space will remind you that the outside world is a playground too, and with a little shift in focus and the right set of eyes you’ll see the magic all around you.
